August 23 – Base tour of the Portland Air National Guard’s 142nd Fighter Wing. I spent a wonderful day with the special operations units called Pararescue Jumpers or PJ’s as they are often called. I am amazed at everything these men and women do to save lives. The PJs are responsible for providing emergency and life-saving services to airmen, soldiers and civilians in both peacetime and combat environments. They truly live up to their motto, “That Others May Live.”

Miss America's Outstanding Teen...
August 13 through August 19 - I had so much fun in Florida, not only getting to know all my Miss America sisters, but supporting my amazing and very talented teen Marli Martin. She did a wonderful job representing the state of Oregon. She has grown so much in the few short weeks between state and nationals. I am so proud of her and all that she has done. She truly resembles what the Miss America's Outstanding Teen program is all about!
